Volvo S60 (2.4T SE Auto)
An outstanding cruiser with an excellent audio system, generally a delightful place to spend time in. Ideal understated image for many people. Superb comfort for passengers and driver alike. Apparently not the most 'involving\ drive (whatever that means), but a superbly easy drive, particularly if you add a few toys.
Watch out, however, for some high service costs, including ludicrous charges for basic replacements (mirror covers, transmission fuel filters etc). The width of the car also, while making it a supremely spacious place to be, means you should try to keep away from other cars in supermarket car parks and the like - inconsiderate people do have the habit of flinging doors into your paint! Lack of back windscreen wiper is an irritance. These are all, in the end, comparatively minor niggles.
Volvo also offers excellent finance options currently and reasonable insurance, to keep those extra costs down for the private buyer (for whom this is an ideal buy). Best bet is to buy 'nearly new', where you'll get SE trim with a few extras for next to nothing. I'm just switching to an 05 model-year diesel to try to cut down on some fuel costs and take advantage of the above.
