 Facts

Upright Vacuum Cleaners are a popular electrical appliance. Some of the top manufacturers include Electrolux, Dyson, Hitachi, Dirt Devil, Sanyo, Hoover, Morphy Richards, Vax, JMB, Moulinex and many more. They generally come in these forms,

  • Upright Cleaners
  • Cylinder Cleaners
  • Wet and dry Cleaners
  • Handheld Cleaners

Lately the main advance in vacuum cleaners has been the introduction of Dyson. Out of nowhere they released a bagless cleaner in the mid 1990's. This has forced other major manufacturers to play catch up. Most having only recently released their bagless technology.

Some things to look out for are,

  • British Allergy Foundation approved, means the filtration levels are high enough to avoid the majority of harmful allergens.
  • A cord of at least 7.7 metres.
  • Bactisafe screen trap, kills bacteria.
  • Mini turbine head, are ideal for pet hair removal and tight corners.
  • 200 plus air watts suction
  • Power of at least 1200 watts
  • Dust capacity of at least 2.5 litres
  • HEPA filter to remove dust particles, mites and pollen.

Vax V006 - Review

The Vax is a bag-less cyclonic 'power' cleaner that has 1700 watt motor which sucks like hell!

The unit comes in a kit of parts and takes a few minutes to put together, which can be a bit of a pain, but once it's together stand by for an ear splitting experience.

The machine explodes into action with a continuous roar usually reserved for medium sized jet aircraft. The assault on your ears is nothing compared to the \'beating\' your carpets are about to take.

In about five minutes the 'clean' front room carpet (our recently departed Dyson had been over this the day before - immediately prior to the handle snapping off) gave up enough rubbish to fill a small skip.

The suction from this device is genuinely amazing if a bit alarming as we were convinced for some time that the machine was actually cutting the carpet (like a lawn mower) so much fluff appeared in the canister.

The hand tool is also a very nifty device - a miniature version of the main unit. Don't be fooled.... I was stupid enough to put my hand up to the nozzle to test the suction and am lucky to have any fingers left, it really is a beast.

Downside.... well there has to be one (cos\' it's well priced too).... is the noise of that motor. It is VERY LOUD so much so the kids ran from the room when we first switched it on.

Overall I give it 5 out of 5 because who said vacuuming should be quiet?

Henry HVR200 Vacuum Cleaner

I am so happy to have another little Henry as my helper! Having previously owned a red Henry for about 10 years I parted with my trusty friend due to the lure of the Dyson - which after two troublesome years I have given up on. (My previous Henry is still going strong in my daughter's home where he has just celebrated his 20th birthday). Henry is powerful, has all the necessary tools for every conceivable job around the house; is manageable in terms of carrying upstairs etc and has an extra long lead which is useful when doing the stairs or hoovering out the car. My only reservation is that it is so powerful you have to watch out for things left on the floor, like socks, ties etc, which will end up nicely sucked down the vacuum hose. A great little cleaner.

Henry HVR200 Vacuum Cleaner

After going through many vacuum cleaners over the years I looked for something that would last. I have had them fall down the stairs and smash , blow up or simply break down. After I had yet another very expensive machine with lots of features breakdown after just two years I searched for the ultimate. I was working in a big office at the time and noticed the cleaners were using this little red cleaner. It was the humble Henry. It is the best buy I ever made. Strangely when I divorced a few years ago and had to split up the goods the only thing we argued over was the Henry. I lost and had to promptly rush out to get another. My ex’s cleaner is going strong after seven years and mine after three. It is simple, strong, difficult to damage, has a good suction and you can run it with or without the bags. It is simply excellent value.
