What is Telnet

Telnet was first designed to allow people access each others information on the Internet. Telnet is a character based terminal application that basically turns your computer into a dumb terminal (a dumb terminal was a common way of talking to your computer). If you are connected to the Internet and have access to a telnet program (one is supplied with Windows operating systems) then you can use Telnet. The one thing that Telnet offers above FTP and other file transferring programs is access to IRC/Chats, MUDS/MOOS and Public Access Servers to name a few.
