 Facts

A printer is a computer hardware device that allows people to print text and images from a computer screen to a piece of paper. Since their first inclusion in the 1970's / 1980's in the home computing scene printers have become very advanced with laser printers now becoming available. Of course there is a massive range in the quality and cost of printers with such printers as mono, ink-jet, thermal, line, dot-matrix and laser printers all being available.

Laser printers were first put on the market by Hewlett-Packard in 1984. A laser printer works in many ways like a photocopier. Instead of scanning the page with a light like a photocopier a laser printers uses a laser instead. The process is much the same after the scanning of the page. The prices and quality of laser printers have gone down massively since it's introduction in 1984. Output quality has increased with 600dpi resolution becoming standard, and the shape and size of the machine similar to an inkjet printer.

Xerox Docuprint M750 - Review

The worst printer I have ever owned. From day one the driver was dodgy with spurious print errors and other problems which could only be temporarily removed by re-installing. Anytime the printer was not used for a few days the printheads dried out and blocked. My colour printhead finally gave up completely after just a few hundred pages and I am appalled to find that the price of a replacement is almost as much as the purchase price of some printers. When the machine is working colour photography printing is quite good..and fast. Black / white text is less good, somewhat fuzzy. I'm tired of messing about with this piece of junk and will, most likely, bin it and buy an HP. Rating.... One star... very bad.

Epson Photo 915 - Review

The Epson Stylus Photo 915 is aimed for the person with a digital camera and includes a useful LCD screen to help you in printing the photos without a computer. With the included software you can edit photos, make cards, import photos and I found the Drivers & Utilities, EPSON PhotoQuicker 3.2 very easy to install. I was very impressed with the photo quality and especially if printed on canon photo paper, because that makes a big difference. After reading the instructions the controls are simple and basically it is idiot proof in it's operation. I really like this printer, and would recommend it as a good general purpose printer for prinitng quality text and high quality photos. The only thing that stops this printer being perfect is the ink useage which is very bad, this printer drinks ink. And the ink is expensive.
