Pentax is a brand name that was created and registered by the Asahi Optical Company of Japan in the late 1950's. The name was originally intended for use with it's photographic cameras and is derived from a combination of the words PENTAprism and refleX in recognition of Asahi Optical Co. being the first manufacturer to incorporate a pentaprism viewfinder and reflex mirror system into a camera.
Pentax U.K. Limited was established as a subsidiary of Asahi Optical Company of Japan, to directly market it's manufactured products throughout the U.K. Since its formation in 1979, Pentax U.K. Limited has expanded its activities from solely photographic equipment to a whole host of other diverse optical products establishing itself as a true multi-divisional company. Pentax U.K. Limited now employs 129 people.

Pentax Optio S
The Pentax Optio S is one of the smallest and lightest cameras.I needed something light weight for my holiday to America. It has a lot of features, which I won't list but in short it's got 3.2 megapixels, 3x optical zoom, 1.6inch LCD screen, voice recorder and a movie mode. There are 7 modes for taking pictures which is Landscape, Flower, Portrait, Self-Portrait, Surf & Snow, Autumn Color and Sunset. The camera body is made of a brushed aluminum alloy and this makes it fell light but solid. One complaint is the battery doesn't last very long, so you don't get many hours of picture taking from it. I highly recommend purchasing one of these. It's an absolute marvel how much technology can be packed into the Pentax Optio S.
