I'm a canadian currently renting one of these cars in South Africa.
Overall I'm impressed with it's handling and power. For a hefty
guy like myself, it would be nice if the seat went back one more
notch - I'm 5' 8.5" and about 200 lbs. Also when it sits idling
with the air-conditioning on (and you're standing outside) there's
some kind of clunking going on under the hood ... probably the air-conditioning
?

Model - Nissan X-Trail 2ltr Sports
This vehicle is smooth, very quited, especially on motorways and
handles extreamly well. Off road the 4- wheel drive selector is
not always required, but when needed a simple push of a button at
any speed, or vehicle angle produces all the power & stability
required for what I would consider tough terrain.
The X-Trail comes with a high level of equipment compaired to its
competitors. Light power steering,Electric windows all round, excellent
sound system including 6X C.D. changer, good seating position with
pleny of adjustment including height. A large sunroof, easy to reach
controls and plenty of storage space in both the front & rear
of the vehicle. Rear leg room is plentiful and the split rear seats
are easy to fold for extra carrying space. Gearbox is a bit clicky,
but to be expected from an off road vehicle.
On the down side, the 2 litre engine at times seems underpowered
at low speeds on the road, althought not off road, and will return
at best 26MPG combined figures.(330 miles to a tank of fuel, being
my best return to date over 9K worth of driving) Cloth seats mark
& stain easily, (damp clothing or damp hair will leave water
marks)although Nissan have now cleaned mine reluctantly under warranty
& scotched guarded them. I believe the type of trim used on
the 2004 models has been change.
Overall I am pleased with the vehicle and the service I have recieved
from Nissan to date.
