Memory is used by computers to store recently used programs, instructions and data. Memory is basically short term memory and it's architecture makes it much quicker than hard disks, CD-ROM's or floppy drives. Of course like every other component, the more you have the better, a computer will run much quicker with a large amount of memory installed. The different forms of memory are always changing and improving such as EDO SIMMs, SDRAM DIMMs and RDRAM RIMMs to name a few of the recent types of memory.
