Levi Strauss was born on February 26, 1829, was a Jewish Bavarian-born American clothing manufacturer. It was in 1853, that Strauss decided to move to San Francisco, California, where he founded Levi Strauss & Co., and sol work clothes to gold prospectors and miners. And it was Later, Strauss who discovered the material denim. Present day Levi are probably the best known make of denim jeans the world over. They make top quality men's, ladies and children's jeans and sell them at above average prices. Recently some companies in the Uk such as Tesco have tried to import Levi jeans direct and sell them at a cheap price compared to the proper retail price set by Levi. They lost their court case against Levi in this respect. Founded in 1853 by Bavarian immigrant Levi Strauss, Levi Strauss & Co. (LS&CO.) is one of the world's largest brand-name apparel marketers with sales in more than 100 countries. There is no other company with a comparable global presence in the jeans and casual pants markets. Their market-leading apparel products are sold under the Levi's and Dockers brands.
The company employs a staff of approximately 12,400 people worldwide, including approximately 1,500 people at its San Francisco, California headquarters. In 1873, Levi Strauss and Nevada tailor Jacob Davis patented the process of putting rivets in pants for strength, and the world's first jeans — Levi jeans — were born. Today, the Levi trademark is one of the most recognized in the world and is registered in more than 160 countries.

A normal pair of Levi jeans will last me about 3-4 years and the only problem I usually have with them after this time is that the colour starts to fade from all the washing. I have also been the main Levi store in San Francisco and got some made to measure jeans their which were fitted by a laser machine, I also found out that Levi 501 jeans are a direct descendant of the original pair made in 1873.
