Karaoke is a Japanese word meaning 'Empty Orchestra', which is used to describe any sing a long music track which displays lyrics on a TV screen. All karaoke songs are recreated in the style of the original artist.

Pop Idol Karaoke Machine

Easy to use and good because it has both cd and tape options. I got this for my daughters birthday mainly because she is a big fan of Pop Idol and Gareth Gates. The Karaoke machine connects to the TV for lyrics on screen and this is all very easy to setup and my daughter and her friends seem happy with the results. The only complaint I have about the machine is the warning it has, which states "this product gets hot during use and is not suitable for use by children". As my daughter is 9 year old I have to constantly warn her about this and keep an eye on her while on it. I find this disappointing as the Pop Idol show and karaoke machine is aimed at young children and girls and they are the ones who will buy the Pop Idol karaoke machine.

I think karaoke machines are old school. Now you can just download video and mp3 karaoke (backing tracks), transfer it to your multimedia device or burn it on a cd and play it on your TV. See http://www.singme.com to see what I mean. Now you don't have to go to bars just to sing, you can just sing anywhere.
