Jackets are an outer garment worn for warmth or fashion. They are usually waist-length and can be described as a light coat. Therefore if a jacket goes as far as the thigh it's described as a coat.
The most popular type of jacket is usually the leather jacket. Obviously made from leather it's most common colour is either brown, grey or black. This item was first associated with bikers in the US such as the Hell's Angels. Hollywood films like the 'The Wild One', and Marlon Brando's Jimmy Strabler character just added to the bad boy appeal of a leather jacket. Another famous cool guy wearing the leather jacket was "The Fonz" from the television series Happy Days. The appeal may have waned for the leather jacket until the 1980's and T-800 character from The Terminator movie, Arnold Schwarzenegger just reaffirmed the bad man leather jacket appeal.
Of course some jackets for men's do go below the waist, cloth jackets
are ideal to go with a shirt and tie, and can be worn with any style
of trouser. The safari jacket is an ideal example of a jacket going
below the waist. It's commonly made of light weight cotton and khaki
in color. Unlike many other jackets it's belted and has been a casual
clothing item since the 1950s
On a lighter note other famous jackets include the Life jacket, Flak
jacket and Straitjacket. The last one may not be easy to find on the
web :).

Berghaus Cornice Long Jacket
The fit is marvelous and the waterproofing technical side does what it claims. I've noticed quite a few other hikers using Halvarssons, so that's way I decided looked into buying one. The 'Gore Extreme Wet Weather guarantee' system keeps you cold during warmer days, and warm in the cooler climes. I've yet to test it in monsoon conditions, but I'm sure no water will get through.
The design is simple but stylish, it will fit most body shapes adequately, molds itself to your body, light weight material makes it very comfortable to wear. Berghaus have ensured to give it plenty of ventilation, with enough flexible amounts of CE in it's sectors of protection. I cannot think of any bad points, nothing comes to mind. I have recently considered adding a trouser combination to the jacket. My usual hiking pants are becoming shabby, and under a continuous torrential rain, will result in my legs becoming like drainpipes.
In really cold climates I always add some thermal layers beneath it, and a fleece on top of the thermals. Otherwise this jacket will not keep you warm. In warmer conditions a T-shirtwill suffice. Overall, it's an excellent outdoor jacket, with plenty of adjustments to keep a perfect fit. The ventilation systems do a good job in both cold and hot conditions, and make sure you're always remarkably comfortable.
