Posted on 25 / 11 / 09 The company was sometimes wrongly assumed to be British owned, it was not. Hoover UK was a division of the US owned Hoover Company, based in North Canton, Ohio. Hoover UK split from it's American overlord in 1993, but was bought and ran by Candy, an appliance manufacturer from Brugherio, Italy. The Hoover brand is not as popular as it was pre Dyson, but, Hoover is still popular appliance brand. At one point, one of their washing machines was the only UK built appliance with a 'A' grade energy efficiency and wash performance. Decades before Dyson, Hoover's market share was near total for vacuum cleaner. But, due to low cost Japanese alternative's and the emergence of Dyson the Hoover brand has been in steady decline. They are no longer the market leader, and are playing catch-up with Dyson. Hoover have released a bagless vacuum cleaner to compete with Dyson. Recently the companies connection with the UK has become more tenuous.
Their plant, located at Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales, (2009) will no
longer build washing machines and other laundry appliance. Resulting
in the loss of over three hundred job. User Rating - ...................................................................................................... Posted on 22 / 06 / 2005 Hoover HWF130M Washer Dryer I decided to go for a british brand, if possible, so I picked the Hoover.
I had owned a Hotpoint, but it was always going wrong and seemed error
prone. I must say the Hoover is a better machine all round and the build
quality is superior. The drum has all the space I need and on every
wash my clothes come out without creases. Whats more, it's extremely
quiet and cleans exceptionally well. The knobs and buttons are not difficult
to understand, and I am sure even my husband could understand it. The
quick wash option is a time saver and an option I did not have with
my last machine. User Rating - ......................................................................................................
