Grills fall into two categories; indoor and outdoor. Indoor grills are most commonly integrated into a cooker, placed either above or directly below the cooking hobs. However, the recent introduction of the 'George Foreman' grilling machines has made portable grilling appliances popular. For commercial purposes (take away restaurants), stand alone grills are common place, but for domestic purposes, the Foreman grills are one of the few options available.

Outdoor grills are more widely available, usually referred to as barbecue's. They also fall into two categories, charcoal and gas fueled. Apart from the power supply (electric), the George Foreman grills could be likened to a miniature version of a gas fueled outdoor grill. There is a great debate over the merits of either a gas or charcoal powered grill. Generally speaking, charcoal grills are recommended for the flavour they produce, and gas for it's ease of use.

Indoor, portable electric grills are restrictive in their availability, with only a few brands launched on the domestic market. Whereas, for barbecue's there is a wealth of options, from the bargain basement (£10) to the premium (£1000 +). Charcoal barbecue'sappear to be for the purist, more fun and producing more flavour some food, whereas gas barbecue's are ideal for convenience, and can sometimes be used indoors.

George Foreman

Incredible versatile, can cook any meat as long as it's not too thick, like a joint, for burgers, hot dogs, chops, steaks and sausages it great. If you love breakfast, the gill can also handle eggs, tomatoes and large mushrooms.I regularly cook a large breakfast or mixed grill when the desire takes me, and the 'Grilleration' large cooking surface helps to grill four food portions at a time.

I upgraded from my previous Foreman grill because this one had removableplates and a larger cooking surface. Wiping clean my previous grill wasn't too hard, but water and grease would often splash off the grill surface onto my worktop, making more work. The plates are a wonder in this regard, once they have cooled, all you need to do is place them directly into the dishwasher.

One note of concern is the fittings of the plates, I've read other owners complain that the plates become looser after continual use. I've only owned my machine for a couple of months, so I cannot comment on this fact yet. But, I suspect the more complicated an appliance becomes, the increased likelihood of errors occurring.

The grill does lack any timing features, which I feel let's down the product somewhat. I will however be more than satisfied as long as the reliability is solid.
