What a glorious feelin'...what a glorious show! An exhilarating musical comedy, Singin' in the Rain is "extraordinarily exuberant, always youthful and joyously indestructible" (Vincent Canby, The New York Times). Starring Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor and Debbie Reynolds, and featuring unforgettable song and dance classics like Singin' in the Rain, Make 'Em Laugh and All I Do is Dream of You, it has "just about everything you could ask for in a movie musical" (Saturday Review). Set in Hollywood in the roaring 20s, co-starring Jean Hagen and the incomparable Cyd Charisse, and featuring a spectacular, 12-minute "Broadway Ballet" finale, it is indisputably, "the most enjoyable of all American movie musicals" (Pauline Kael).

I was born in 1952, and so I didn't see the film until many years later, when as a cool sixties teenager I was a secret addict. Many years later, as a mother, I rather shamefacedly introduced my equally cool nineties teenager and we shared our secret vice. It is the ultimate and best musical of all time, extraordinary dance routines, wonderful songs and witty, memorable dialogue. Boyfriend ditched you? Lost your job? Feeling sorry for yourself? Whatever the problem (within reason!) Singin' in the Rain, a bottle of vino, a bag of doughnuts and a pal (or mother - or daughter - or whoever!) will fix it.
