I first signup online with Direct Line because they offered 10%
for doing so online. As I drive a performance car this was quite
a saving. Since then I have renewed my policy with Direct Line now
for 2 years. The only thing i've noticed is that Direct Line were
by far the lowest when i started with them, but the margin with
other companies seems to be much lower now. I did find one company
£30 cheaper last year (Elephant), but for 30 quid I just couldn't
be bothered with all the hassle of changing. But even for newly
qualified drivers, like recently my 18 yr old son, his cheapest
quote was still from Direct Line, with the policy much cheaper than
with First Alternative. Despite the margins closing in on Direct
Line, my experience is still very positive.

Like the gentleman above I have used Direct Line for a number of
years, and also always they had very competitive premiums. However
this is where my good experiences end with Direct Line. Recently
my car was written off and trying to make a claim with these guys
was frustrating due to the extremely poor customer relations. After
weeks off pursuing them with the claim we resorted to to ringing
them daily to move the claim along. This as you can imagine produced
a great deal of stress, which wasnt helped by Direct Line taking
50 minutes to answer a customer call. I am still waiting on Direct
Line as we speak, very disappointed.

Unlike David I would happily recommend them to anyone. I have had
to call upon Direct Line twice in an emergency. First when i had
a breakdown in Scotland, while trying to get home to Swindon. And
secondly while breaking down on the M4. Both times Direct Line answered
the phone quickly, sorted me with a trip home. And even on the Scotland
trip they managed to get my car back. Which i thought was superb.
All in all an excellent service, maybe you can find cheaper options
around for the younger driver, but i prefer the security of a major
company to cheaper cover. For customer service they are number 1.

Like David, I have used Direct Line for some time, I currently
have my car insurance, my house contents insurance and my car loan
with them. This will end soon. They are very competitive and efficient
until you test their customer service. I was recently hit by a driver
who did not stop, however I followed him and got his details and
I have a witness. Direct Lines inept and painfully slow actions
are incredibly frustrating. Two letters to their Customer Service
Director, complaining about poor customer service, sent 35 and 33
days ago has not even received an acknowledgement. How damning is
that.
