Two most common forms of Desktop computers.

A personal computer is often referred to as a desktop computer or PC. A PC is a computer used by one person and was first developed by IBM in the late 1970's and early 1980's. When most people refer to a PC they are usually referring to a computer that is IBM compatible and runs an operating system such as Windows with an Intel / AMD structured processor. On the whole an Apple Macintosh is not thought of as a PC but as a Mac. A desktop pc package will usually include a monitor, mouse, keyboard and a minitower case which includes the processor, motherboard, memory, hard drive, video card, modem etc.

I am thinking of getting a new pc mainly for gaming. Anyone got any advice on what i should look for? Being looking at Alienware pc's.

For a full-on gaming setup I would consider a system such as,

AMD 64 3800/4000/fx-55/fx-57
Nvidia 6800ultra/7800GT/7800GTX
1-2GB memory
19 inch monitor
5.1 or better speakers
Creative SoundBlaster X-FI Fatal1ty
Razor Copperhead gaming mouse
Func 1030 gaming mouse mat

Could well cost you £2000 though.

The major manufacturers of complete desktop computer systems include Hewlett Packard, Compaq, Acer and Gateway and Dell. Most of these brands can be found at retailers such as then PC World. Retailers such as PC World sell the latest up to date desktop computer systems with the latest Intel and Amd processors. And standard componants such as a hard drive, monitor, modem, keyboard, mice and 3D graphic cards. Lots of the new complete desktop computer systems from now come with flat screen 17 and 19 inch monitors. This means flat bed monitors are not only for top end desktop computers anymore.
