Blinds can be made from a selection of materials, fabric such as cotton, wood such as pine, plastics of varying colour and of course metal. Personally I find plastic and metal blinds cold and sterile. But for versatility, metal blinds can be attached to the inside or outside of a home or business. If fitted correctly, they can be protection against thieves and vandalism to windows. Although, the expense of machine operated security blinds are much more expensive than an ordinary indoor cosmetic blind.
Window blind is a term used to describe a wide selection of window coverings. Personally speaking, a white metal blind with slats, located in a decaying 60's office building is the first image which pops into my mind when the term, 'window blind' is mentioned. Roller blinds are simply a sheet of fabric material which is lowered vertically over a window. Roman, venetian and vertical blinds feature slats which can be rotated at varying angles to shut out or allow light.
However, my personal favourites are woven wood blinds in a roller design,
which are made from woods such as pinoleum or alabachi. Or wooden shutters,
because they last the longest and offer improved security.
