Bhs is short for British Home Stores, and is a large chain of department stores. There shops are located in prominent locations in most large UK towns and cities. The product lines they sell includes clothing for both sexes and children, bedding, household utensils, furnishings and crockery.
The company has had a turbulent past, but it's fortunes were steadied when it was acquired by Sir Philip Green in the year 2000. The chain cost two hundred million pounds, and now contains one hundred and eight six branches. Bhs was a public (Plc) before the takeover, and a mainstay of the FTSE 100. But Sir Philip Green converted the company to a private (Ltd), and therefore is no longer listed on the public stock exchange.
Sir Philip Green also owns the Arcadia Group, which included stores such as Topshop. Until now it was a separate company to Bhs. But on 27 February 2009, it was announced that the two companies would merge. And within Bhs will be concession sections for other Arcadia brands such as Wallis.

I have often shopped at Bhs, whilst the quality isnt up there with the likes of marks and sparks, their prices are low, there are usually a few bargains and a good selection of different items. The site itself is clearly laid out, they have made an effort to make it easy for an online beginner, I would not class it as being fool proof, but it is functional rather than fancy and artistic. For example there are no silly flash images, they have improved the login procedure, which could be very slow to load, no matter which browser I used. I usually use the search function and it does a good job of finding what i am looking form, it seems adequate for my queries. Even though if I am out of ideas it's a better idea to browse through the categories rather than using the search, because a site search you need to know exactly what your after.
