 Facts

The Audi logo - the “Four Rings” – is the emblem of one of the oldest car manufacturers in Germany. It symbolises the merger completed in 1932 of four independent vehicle manufacturers: Audi, DKW, Horch and Wanderer. Together with the brand NSU, which was incorporated in 1969, they are the forefathers of today’s AUDI AG. Men like August Horch were there from the very beginning. He was one of those pioneering engineers who got the car up and running. "Vorsprung durch Technik" is more than simply an engaging slogan; it encapsulates Audi's ambitions in developing cars. The perpetual challenge is to question existing concepts and adopt innovative approaches.

Engineering of this car inside and out is just astonishing, as is the ride which is both grippy and very fast. I have only test driven the S4 so far but have one on order, at 36K plus it isn't cheap and you are nearly in M3 territory. But I am no flash BMW type driver. The S4 has a 4.2 litre engine and though the M3 is meant to be faster in a straight line the amazing ability of the S4's four wheel drive system will beat the beemer round any bends. The cabin is classy and I just feel the car has class written all over it. Can't wait for delivery.

Audi A3 2.0 TDI Sport

I traded my Mk4 Golf Gti in for a new A3 in trepidation, but it was the best decision i have ever made. The chassis on the new A3 is superb and makes the golf seem like a shopping trolley. As for the engine, this is my first deisel, but will most certainly not be my last. It....just goes!! Wow! Mid-range torque is so much better suited to my style of driving than pop-fizz 1st gear thrashing. I only wish I could have changed over years ago. As for the price...if you can find a car this classy, with this standard of build quality and cabin perfection for less, I will eat my router. This is just the best all-round car I have ever owned.

Audi A3 2.0FSi

I had always imagined my first prestige car would be some sort of BMW, but my decision to buy an A3 was strictly a matter of style. There are so many 3-Series on the road now that I wanted something a little different. The A3's looks aren't going to win any prizes, but this car oozes
quality, with its aggressive front lights and improved rear-end. The A3 feels slightly longer than its peers, but the limited rear leg room and long front end suggest that most of this extra body is in front of the driver. The boot is long if not very wide, pretty much what you would expect of a car of this size. The seats are comfortable and very adjustable, though not as sporty as they could be. Substantial internal storage is a little lacking despite the cup holders and various small nooks dotted around. The glove compartment is large, but divided three sections limiting it to many small items. Onto the drive. The 150bhp 2-litre engine is reasonably responsive, especially in the mid-range, handy for overtaking and motorway cruising. Having also test driven the 1.6, 1.6FSi, and 1.9TDi, I would recommend all but the smallest petrol version. Steering gives very little feedback, but the car handles very well so this isn't a problem. The suspension is firm enough, so I can't see the sports suspension being necessary. The brakes are reassuringly sharp, but there's enough \'feel\' to make slowing down not too unpleasant. I am so glad I bought the A3. Most of what makes it special has to be experienced, rather than being describable. Once inside you feel safe and separated from the world outside. If you're considering buying a Focus but have a bit of extra cash I would suggest you take an A3 out for a spin - you'll love it.

Model - Audi A4 2.4 SE

We can only afford second hand, but this car puts a smile on our face even after two years in our family. Memories of an Audi 80, sadly written off, came flooding back. Solid, reliably engineered, affordable motoring. We live on a farm, so country lanes and trips into town are trouble free experiences. Although we are both working full time well into retirement age, I know when my wife sets off to her office she will be brought back safe and sound by our Audi.

Summary of Audi

Audi have been competing with German rivals Mercedes and BMW to be the king of luxury / business class cars. Known for their high build quality, their cars do seem to lack character and warmth.
