By buying Inktomi and Overture, Yahoo ! also gets new ties with
major sites like Microsoft's MSN.com and specialty portal About.com.
Up until yahoo bought Overture, Overture is a pay per click search
engine that provides search results for Yahoo!, MSN and Lycos. Overture
uses a bidding system for specific keywords like "credit cards",
so if you bid highest you would list highest in the Overture results
for "credit cards", this can be subject however to a review
from Overture's editorial team who make sure web sites are relevant
for the search term bid for. Overture was formally known as GoTo
and is now listed on the Nasdaq National Market. Should be very
interesting now that Yahoo is seeing Google as a major web site
portal competitor, and is buying up large chunks of the net to combat
