It's been quite some time since I last visited a Waterstone's
and I am feeling quite nostalgic at the thought. I live in
a rural district of Lincolnshire, and only had the opportunity
to visit Waterstone's when a family member would go shopping
to either Sheffield or Nottingham. Possibly like many other
people with a lack of transport and living in the countryside
I have become reliant on the World Wide Web to do my shopping.
The latest book I ordered from the Web is the 'The God Delusion
by Richard Dawkins who is a terrifically witty man who sticks
it into organised religions. Only available as a hardback
currently I ordered it from the Waterstone's website for £10.00
(List price: £20.00), and this was the lowest price
I could find online after visiting four or five of my usual
haunts (including amazon.co.uk). The main issue I dislike
with websites in general is the difficulty of finding something
a little unusual, you end up going after the title your interested
in, but on the whole will not venture anywhere else. In-store
you can walk around at your own leisure and it's easier to
come across something you had never thought about reading.
Getting back to Waterstone's site, it's without doubt the
most clear, crisp and clean site I have browsed and is only
let down by a lack of editor and customer reviews. Ordering
is easy and delivery is good.
