This review is biased because I used to work part time at
my local Oddbins. From my training there I know one thing
for sure, the staffs are knowledgeable about the wine they
sell, and usually after a while this turns into a love of
wine, and sometimes too much love for wine :). While I worked
there the Oddbins management hosted training and tastings
for the staff at least once per month. This even applied to
part time workers like myself, and if the staff were interested
enough Oddbins were perfectly happy to pay for the staff to
take the Wine & Spirit Education Trust exams for levels
I and II. The difference with Oddbins and many other wine
stockists is the lack of elitism, their stores I feel are
more accessible to the public. They also have lots of special
offers on which change every month, they are usually something
like buy 2 bottles of wine and receive the 3rd free from selected
ranges. Oddbins is the place to go if you need down to earth
advice about wine.

I was recommended it by a staff member of Waitrose after
they couldn't help me find what I was looking for. The first
things I noticed while visiting Oddbins was the helpfulness
of the assistant, she was great and able to accommodate and
advice me of any questions.
The selection of wines is pretty good, and they separated
easily into reds and whites and also by countries which are
then identified by a flag. They also then state the region
of that country they are from. Every inch of the store is
stocked with wine bottles, and it begins to feel like an Aladdin's
cave.
They have even supplied little descriptions and tasting
text for every single bottle stocked. The same applies for
the smaller stock of spirits and beers. What's more they also
have a tasting section with some of their most popular bottles.
Some good offers and customer service. Excellent.
