I use the National Express 2 with my student card to travel
to uni in Manchester. They offer excellent value for money
with a return ticket only costing me £12 from my home
in Milton Keynes to Manchester. The coaches are always modern
and clean, you can eat while traveling and you also get a
guaranteed seat unlike with trains. The new Manchester terminal
has also just been refitted, so it's pretty smart. On a few
trips we have sometimes got the new leather seated, extra
legroom buses with air con. The coaches are very punctual,
so make sure your on time. I have missed my coach once, but
all I needed to do was show my ticket to the ticket-man and
he changed me onto a slightly later bus journey. I am not
sure the local train service would be so accommodating. If
your a student then I would definitely recommend this service,
they offer great prices especially for students. Some friends
have recommended MegaBus and some of the low coast airlines
as the cheapest way of inter city travel. But as I live in
Milton Keynes these options are not really a viable means
of travel. But I would certainly look into them if I lived
in London and was traveling to Manchester.
