Millets are ideal for those people who enjoy spending their
time outdoors, if you like picnics, rambling, or camping then
this is the website / store for you to visit. I am moderate
outdoor type and I think this is what Millets caters for,
I am not sure it's ideal for the extreme stuff. I have never
really used Millets for their *normal type* clothes because
I do not particularly like the look or feel of their jumpers
and trousers. Where Millets are excellent is their range of
outdoor coats, waterproofs, coats, walking boots, generally
the items which are not common in your local M&S but are
of course essential to venture outdoors in this English country.
Of course these items are never cheap where ever you go, outdoor
clothing really does seem a little too expensive for what
you get. Finding anything under twenty pounds is a challenge
usually. The prices really are my only gripe about them. On
a positive note Millets are excellent for stocking clothing
for nearly any age. We fitted out the whole family for our
last 1 week break in the Lake District, this included my youngest
who is only three. Walking boots are also another area I've
used Millets for, they stock boots from the quite cheap all
the way through to the really expensive. From bitter experience
I've found walking boots to be the most essential clothing
item to get right. It's really worth taking the time to try
and browse, and make sure they fit with the kind of walking
socks you'd be wearing. If not you can end up in agony on
a long walking break, and get yourself into serious trouble.
As we usually stay in accommodationduring our breaks (we are
not the hardy type outside in our sleeping bags) I have never
looked much into Millets camping range. I am sure it's pretty
typical of their clothing range. I haven't used their website
yet, but on the whole the staff have been pleasant and friendly
at their high street stores. If your looking for middle of
the road stuff they are ideal. The quality is pretty good,
and their prices are acceptable if not cheap.

I have generally found Millets useful at the lower price range
for outdoor clothes and equipment.
They give members of Ramblers Asociation 10% discount.
Useful walking boots, eg Hi-Tec nylon lightweight. for weekend
walking.
You do not need £100+ goretex breathable shoes or coats,
unless you are doing a week trecking in the mountains away from
drying facilities. It does not hurt to get a bit damp, so long as
you keep moving and warm. It does not happen often!
Particularly, I am impressed by their waterproofer:
"Peter Storm Clothing Re-proofer wash-in":-
(peter storm is own brand name), about £7 for 3 garments,
or tent. Made by Grangers, who for decades made marquee and military
tent waterproofers, their latest researched product for waterproofing.
Does your ordinary cotton macs for city use, as well as breathable
nylon or goretex outdoor walking coats, very waterproof. You iron
it to set the chemical, which is washed in a washing machine, or
by hand. Excellent waterproof improvement.
You must first wash the coat in soap flakes. Esential to NEVER
use detergents, (NOT washing powders), becausae these permanently
destroy the waterproofing system.
