Their platinum card is one of the best balance transfer cards on the market, if you need to get your hands on some short term cash then it's the card for you. For new customers they also have some periodic offers and their on going rates are pretty low.

Only criticism I can think of is the 2% handling fee. Customer service has always been of a high standard.

I have been banking with MBNA for over a decade, so I guess you can call it a long association. Only recently have I started using a MBNA "silver card". It's a new card.

I was also an existing cardholder with MBNA, but for certain items like petrol the silver card had more reward bonuses. It made sense to sign-up for it.

One of the distinct advantages with MBNA is their low apr rate for standard balance transfers, when last checking I am sure it was only 1.9%. But it is variable.

So this means if you have payments on your other credit cards at a higher rate, all you need to do is phone MBNA and their will transfer the payment onto your silver card.

But this is the only real purpose I use the card for, because for general shopping and spending the apr rate is much higher. In my honest opinion it's only a card for transferring balances from other cards.

But still a very useful thing to have.
