I was visiting Bakewell in Derbyshire on a trip which also took in Chatsworth House, when the tour part came across this bookshop. I had been looking for a particular book for a long period of time because it was now out of print since 1976 (I had read this book while in my early twenties).
So I browsed around in the vain hope of coming across it, as I was browsing the store lady was very helpful when I explained my predicament. After I had told her the title she searched on the computer to see if it was in-store, and after this she took my address and telephone number and said she would search around for it. After one week and I suppose great lengths to find just one simple book for me, she had ordered it with a publisher and it was posted out to me.
For something had taken me 20 plus years it had all been done within
a week. When I had asked other book shops to find locate this book they
always came up with nothing. It was out of print and tough luck basically.
This reminds me of what a good thing small,independent and personal
shops are. I know only exclusively use their website for buying all
my books, I see it as returning a favor.
