Cornbread is not so popular in Europe because the recipe was discovered by explorers of North America, when they came into contact with Native Americans of the land.

Cornbread is a cheap food to make, because the key ingredient, cornmeal, is cheaper than the key ingredient of bread, wheat. The Southern States of America have tended to be less wealthy per person that the North. Therefore, cornbread has historically been eaten more in the South.

As the picture above shows, one of the most popular techniques for cooking cornbread is in a frying pan. All you need to do is oil the pan and heat it to a high temperature and mix in the ingredients and fry for thirty minutes.

I love cornbread. So easy to make compared to most bread foods. I prefer the savory version of cornbread but I know friends who prefer the Yankee version. Surprisingly my fav recipe came from a British site ran by the BBC.

fourteen ounce plain flour
nine ounce cornmeal
one tablespoon salt
four tablespoon baking powder
four ounce sugar
five hundred milliliters milk
two eggs
four ounce of butter
a few kernel of sweet corn, fresh or from the tin

Method
1. Heat oven to four hundred Fahrenheit.
2. Grease tin of eight inch.
2. Combine every ingredient in bowl then put in tin.
3. Cook for 20-30 minutes, depend how well done you like your cornbread.
