As insurance companies go, Churchill are newcomers, relatively. Began in nineteen eighty nine by Martin Long, it's first insurance products was home contents. Only at a later date did the company branch out to offer insurance for traveling, automobiles and pets.
The difference between Churchill and traditional insurance companies was how the insurance was sold. Churchill did not have a branch network, and instead sold their insurance by telephone or third party broker services. Latterly they began selling insurance on the World Wide Web.
Like with most successful financial services, Churchill was purchased by a bigger fish, RBS, in 2003. The company was valued at a little over one billion pounds, and included Prudential's insurance network, who Churchill had purchased a year earlier.
The Churchill Dog, or nodding dog, is the brand character of the company.

I've always use the net for gaining quotes, and they also usually
have a 5% or 10% reduction for first buying online. I went with Churchill
who seem to have very similar prices and quote system to direct line
and a couple of others insurance companies i've forgotten now. I am
now 27, have 6 years no claims and drive a 1.8 Focus, so it was a pretty
standard insurance file. Churchill came out a few pounds cheaper than
the rest and it seems they love people with over five years of 'no claims'.
The faq states the renewal is easy and straight forward by post. I am
happy with the car insurance quotes with Churchill, that I think we
will try our home contents insurance with them next year sometime. I
wonder if, with the renewal letter comes, I will still check my recent
quote for car insurance for this year 2006-2007 with other companies
online as well, again the Churchill quote was well within the other
quotes I received. I think the most attractive factors of Churchill
are of course the cheap quotes, a courtesy car as standard and the quick
service you can get online.
