Emil Rathenau, founder of AEG, bought the German licence for the Edison patents and in 1883 founded the German Edison Society in Berlin, which was renamed General Electricity Society (AEG, Allgemeine Elektrizitaets-Gesellschaft) in 1887. The core product groups of AEG Domestic Appliances in the UK are: Built-in ovens and hobs, Washing machines, tumble dryers & washer, dryers and Dishwashers.
AEG are one of Europe's top electrical appliances makers and AEG Domestic Appliances currently employs approximately 5200 people in Germany. Their factories develop and manufacture products mainly for the European market: washers, tumble dryers and dish washing machines in Nuremberg; built-in ovens, hobs and vacuum cleaners in Rothenburg; refrigerators and freezers in Kassel.
